Articles about Shipcarpenter Square have appeared in a number of periodicals and newspapers, including The Washington Post Magazine, March 17, 2002, and Delaware Beach Life, July 2006.

Russell Shorto’s history of the settlement of New Amsterdam in the 18th century, when the Delaware River was its southern border, Island in the Middle of the World, is available at the Lewes Public Library, as are the Journals of the Lewes Historical Society. The latter focus on daily life and commerce in 19th and early 20th century Lewes and Sussex County.

We hope residents will suggest other articles and books about Lewes and its history that can be recommended in this space from time to time. See also the web site of the Lewes Historical Society, listed under Lewes Links on our web site.
